Message from the Program Director, Dr. Margaret Eng

Margaret H. Eng, M.D.

Thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Monmouth Medical Center. It has been my honor to be the Residency Program Director for the last eight years after being a member of the teaching faculty for the previous twelve years.

Since 1950, Monmouth Medical Center has been a bastion of medical education in Central New Jersey. As a teaching hospital, the clinical experience is varied and complex. This is evidenced by Monmouth Medical Center Internal Medicine residents’ success at completing the American Board of Internal Medicine at a rate well above the national average.

The successful candidate for this program will be presented with the opportunity to hone their clinical skills in managing patients, to develop their individual style in teaching students and to learn from highly trained, dedicated and talented faculty members. Participation in scholarly activities and cutting edge medical care is available and highly encouraged for all residents. As a result, many of our current residents have had many clinical research publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations at major national meetings. In addition, the residents at MMC have had a history of success at Medical Jeopardy Competitions and represented New Jersey at the National American College of Physicians finals recently.

Besides an exceptional clinical educational experience, residents at Monmouth Medical Center are trained in real life issues such as medical ethics, fiscal wellness, medicolegal considerations, psychosocial aspects of medical care, medical decision making and palliative care.

The Internal Medicine and subspecialty faculty are diligent in the pursuit of high quality medical practice and they embody the finest examples of clinician teachers. The faculty have participated and organized academic programs on the regional and national level. They have received numerous awards for teaching and have been recognized as being among New Jersey’s and America’s Best Doctors.

Importantly, the faculty is present daily for direct patient care supervision, educational conferences and to assist your professional development with timely feedback and compassionate oversight.

Monmouth County is a beautiful place to live. There is an enjoyable pace of life and an extensive variety of social experiences. Many graduates of the residency program have chosen to stay in the area and practice internal medicine. Others have returned as subspecialists. They all proudly participate as faculty members of this well established and highly respected program.
